This page summarizes the most important changes in the World Clocks gadget for Google Personalized Homepage, Google Pages, and web sites. When applicable, we cover as well changes to the Meeting Planner page, linked from the gadget.

2010/11/02:
Developers at Google finally indentified and addressed the issue with the updates not being distributed to iGoogle users. We are still seeing that Google still tells your browsers to hold on the local cached version of the code for longer than it should, so you might have to use the Ctrl + F5 trick to help speed up the updates.

2010/10/15:
The iGoogle platform has become very slow in distributing our time zone offset updates to the users. It is causing some delay in propagating the daylight saving time changes to some of our customers from a few hours to a few days. We have reported the issue to Google but we are still waiting for some answers about when it will be fixed.

2010/08/08:
The FAQ has been updated today with a few more articles, trying to get the process to configure the gadget as easy as possible. Our email support takes sometimes up to a couple of days to get back to you, so we want to ensure you have the information available to you to get you going on your own.

2010/01/24:
Some fixes in the gadget today to make the links to the FAQ and time zone codes functional again. In addition to that, the meeting planner tool has been enhanced and generally speaking the World Clocks gadget web site had its look and feel updated.

2009/09/13:
Our users around the Pacific (US West coast, Eastern Asia, some parts of Australia, etc.) have been experiencing a blackout of the World Clocks gadget. One of Google server located in Oregon became unable to process our code a few days ago. The issue has been resolved and everybody just be up and running.

2009/07/25:
Some changes in the Google Gadget API caused the World Clocks to expand to a very large height on Chrome on Safari (webkit based browsers) for the past few days. We have finally found, tested and deployed a workaround. Your World Clocks gadget should have returned to its normal size.

2009/01/18:
The digital display in 24h format has been slightly adjusted to be compliant with the standards. For time earlier than 10:00, we are now correctly display the leading 0, likei for 09:59. Thank you Mike for reporting this discrepency.

2008/05/12:
As requested by several users, we have addressed a small discrepency of the display of 12am, midnight, for the digital display.

2008/03/09:
Good news. Even though our user base has been growing significantly in the past 6 months, we only had a handful of customer emails about questions related to DST changes. Our enhancement pushed in the last couple of days seems to work fairly well.

2008/03/07:
We have implemented some changes to improve the handling of the DST changes in the gadget. In the previous DST changes, some users experienced some transient issues with 1 hour offset lasting for several hours before or after the actual change. We have reduced this possible transient problem to 2 hours (time for our time zone offset database to propagate through the Google caching system).

2008/02/07:
We have enabled the meeting planner link on World Clocks gadgets placed on websites. Therefore, you can now have the meeting planner functionality not only on your iGoogle page, your Google pages, but on your blogs or websites as well. The meeting planner link is enabled by default, but you can disable it by unchecking the option on the configuration tool.

2008/02/05:
A problem on Google systems is causing a data transfer delay between a few seconds and up to 5 minutes. This is impacting the World Clocks when using the "Use time server" option, causing the time to be late by up to 5 minutes. We have reported the issue to Google and are awaiting for a quick resolution.

2008/01/13:
We pushed several small enhancements today to address some requests from our users:
- The font size of the digital format has been reduced a bit, and a new setting allows to control the font size that works best for you.
- A new setting allows to control whether or not to get the precision down to the seconds. This will allow you to turn off the second hands on analog clocks. On the digital format, you will get the seconds displayed by default, and you can use Edit Settings to turn this off to only get the hours and minutes.
- The AM/PM display on the analog clock faces is now removed if the 24h digital format is selected, as this was redundant to have for instance 20:50 with a PM even if the analog clock was in the 12h format. A few users requested this adjustment which makes sense.
If you are using the digital format, these few changes introduced today will slightly change how the clocks look, hopefully for the better. If you don't like this change, go to Edit Settings and uncheck "Show seconds" and set "Digital time text size" to "Large". You will get back to the exact same display format as before today's update.

2007/10/22:
The World Clocks gadget has been unavailable for 2 hours today because of an issue with our hosting server. We are working with our Internet Hosting provider to make sure this does not happen again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

2007/09/27:
The World Clocks gadget has been updated to work with the Google Desktop. You can now add the World Clocks to your Google Desktop Sidebar. The Options dialog of the Sidebar has a known issue which causes scrollbar to be missing. You will have to use the Tab key to go through the setting parameters while on the Option screen. Google has been informed of this issue and this will hopefully be resolved promptly.

2007/09/19:
We continued the localization of the gadget and added Portuguese and Japanese translated text.

2007/09/03:
We pushed a few small updates today, especially an enhancement analog clocks of very small sizes such as the text of the label does not go below the 10 points size, and stay readable as the clock size shrinks.

2007/08/06:
An change from Google is currently causing the setting page to display the gadget parameters in an incorrect order. Google confirmed they are working on fixing this issue. This problem is making the setup of the World Clocks gadget very difficult, as the time zone and label fields for each clock are not grouped together. Sorry for this significant inconvenience, we will post updates here when we here more from Google.
Update on 2007/08/24: Google has finally addressed the issue, the World Clocks gadgets parameters are back in the correct order.

2007/07/03:
Google is experiencing some inconsistent issues with iGoogle causing some gadgets to be displayed as "temporarily unavailable". This is not wide spread and not consistent. Some users are having no issue, while some others are seeing intermittent issues. The less fortunates are just unable to use iGoogle right now.
The impact on the World Clocks gadget can be less obvious than the "temporarily unavailable" state. The component in charge of fetching the exact time from our time server is impacted by the Google outage and sometimes fails. When this happens, the gadget defaults to your computer system clock. If you see incorrect time being displayed, then you most likely have a misconfiguration in your computer time (DST, timezone, etc). More information is available in our FAQ.
Update on 2007/07/05: Google has acknowledged the issue and is working on it. From a forum post, "we're seeing reports of this all over, and indeed it appears to be a problem in the fetcher, affecting both gadget specs and the _IG_Fetch* calls that retrieve remote data".

2007/05/27
This update is only focused on the analog clock mode of the gadget. The new features and enhancements coming today include:
- A new option allow displaying the analog clock in 24h format. In Edit Settings, specify "24h analog format" for the "Analog Time" field.
- The second hand movement is now more consistent, as we better approximate the time of the next graphical update.
- The clock face graphics have been smoothed a little and the readability of the numbers around the clocks have been improved no matter what the clock size is.

2007/04/29:
We are experiencing some issues with the World Clocks gadget not always displaying on the users personalized homepage (showing "Information is temporarily unavailable.) or when displaying, having missing text (replaced by "???") and sometimes incorrect time.
The issue is coming from the production systems at the Google data centers. We have reported the problem to Google.
Our gadget will operate as usual as soon as Google has fixed the problems.
As of 15:00 (3:00pm) UTC on 4/30/2007, the situation seems to be improving. The problem has been found to have impacted many gadgets, but not every users. As you might be aware, an important number of Google Personnalized Homepage have lost their settings in the past few days. The two type of issues might be related.
As of 12:00 noon UTC on 4/31/2007, the outage seems to be resolved. Through the night, some more instances of the probleme happened, but our contact at Google confirmed the problem should now be addressed.

2007/04/17:
A Meeting Planner tool is now linked with the World Clocks gadget. An optional link Launch the Meeting Planner on the top section of the gadget takes you to the Meeting Planner webpage where the time at each time zone selected in your gadget is displayed in columns. A simple color coding allows to see right away when each time zone is during the day time hours. This tool makes picking the best time for an online meeting or conference call very easy.
If you don't need the Meeting Planner link on your World Clocks, just go to Edit Settings and uncheck the box Meeting Planner Link.

2007/04/08:
- Clocks 5 to 9 are now setup through manual entry of either the time zone code or the time offset from GMT. This change has been done for 2 reasons. First, the gadget load time has been impacted by the upgrade to support 9 clocks instead of 4, and keeping 9 clocks with the full 400 time zone lists was causing too much impact on performance. Second, users have requested more flexibility to setup the time of the clocks. This is now offered on clocks 5 to 9 where you can enter a decimal time offset value. For more information, refer to the FAQ.
- The format of the date is now customizable. You can choose from the date previously available, or only the full day of the week, or the first 3 letters of the day of the week, or multiple numerical only formats.
- A new mode has been added which allows to display only one clock per row. This is of little to no use for the Personalized Homepage but will allow to do a column presentation of the World Clocks gadget on websites, blog, etc. which is best suitable to be on the side of the website content.
- Continued the internationalization efforts. Added Norwegian, Polish, and extended the other currently supported languages.

2007/03/27:
- New analog clock display layouts: you can now select to get 2, 3 or 4 clocks per row.
- The number of clocks the gadget can display has been upgraded from 4 to 9.
- You can now select to get the time synchronized from our server instead of from your computer's local clock. This is especially useful in case the computer you are using is not properly setup and you do not have the administrative privileges required to address the setup issue. Once this option checked, the gadget will ask our server the universal time before to display the clocks.
- The World Clocks gadget is now internationalized in German, French and a few other languages. More will come soon.
- To check out the new features, go to the "Edit Setting" menu and select the new "Gadget Mode" options and the "Use Time Server" new check box.

2007/03/20:
A new display mode, Digital Clocks, is now available in addition to the Analog Clocks mode. You can select between Time only or Time and date. To check out the new mode, go to the "Edit Setting" menu and select one of the 2 new "Gadget Mode" options.

2007/03/17:
The size of the clocks can now be set to Small, Medium, or Large, or can be left to be automatically determined such as the full width of the gadget space is used. To set the clock size, go to "Edit settings" on the gadget.

2007/03/15:
Addressed issues regarding the automated sizing of the gadget. This is especially important for World Clocks gadgets added to a web page, where the size has been fixed at configuration time. The bug fixes are helping as well on the Personalized Homepage, removing the need to refresh when the display gets truncated.

2007/03/10:
Added a clock face to the gadget such as the numbers and hands are no longer on an empty white background. From now on, both World Clocks gadgets, the 2 and 4 clocks versions, are using the exact same code. This means that you can have 2 or 4 clocks displayed in both gadgets.

2007/03/02:
Resolved a display problem for AM/PM marker being incorrect between noon and 1pm, for the 2 clocks version.

2007/02/13:
Redesigned the core of the World Clock: the gadget does not need an up to date Adobe Flash Player anymore, as this is a stand alone Javascript application. Most of the clock display is based on a gadget from Mark Barrett. The clock look a little bit naked but we will improve this as soon as possible. For the time being, this new clock is only for the 2 clocks gadget. The 4 clocks gadget is still using a Adobe Flash based application, but to comply with new requirements from this application it now displays large black borders. Here again we will address this as soon as possible.

2007/02/11:
- Resolved the issue of the gadget being broken for the last couple of days. We are now pointing to the corrected Adobe Flash application. Sorry for the past few days of unavailability.
- As the Flash requirement has always been the source of issues for some users, and also as the Flash based clock application has become unreliable, we are working to shift the gadget to a Flash independant solution.

2006/11/05:
Created a 4 clocks variant of the 2 clock current World Clocks gadget due to popular demand.
